Ordained Local Ministry and Presbytery Planning Presbytery of Glasgow 14 Feb 2012
What is OLM? • a non-stipendiary form of the ordained ministry of Word & Sacrament • part of the one ministry of Jesus Christ and of the one ministry of Word & Sacrament • a flexible ministry, able to be deployed in a variety of roles within Presbyteries • a local ministry, largely in support of the Parish ministry • a team ministry appointment largely working alongside others
Why do we need OLM? • Theologically, we need to take more seriously the ministry of all God’s people • Functionally, we need more people on the ground to share the tasks of ministry • Practically, we need to spread the load of ministry without increasing the costs • To renew the call to a non-stipendiary ministry which can meet future needs
How might OLMs work in Glasgow? • Attached to a particular Congregation or Grouping to offer support within a ministries team (led by Parish minister) • Working across the Presbytery, offering support to enable the mission aims of the parish(es) • Offering key support in Priority Areas to build capacity for leadership locally • In Pioneer ministry, helping forge new communities of faith where a paid post is not sustainable • Enabling ecumenical connection and commitment
