What does a L&T repository do? • Hosts any digital resource that can be used to support teaching and learning • Provides “virtual objects” that reference materials (on and offline) held elsewhere • Offers the same facilities as a library i.e. search, browse, locate, preview and borrow • Offers additional facilities e.g. upload and publish, myLibrary and may package learning objects into assemblies of content • Delivers learning objects/packages that can be played in a VLE, and resources for use by tutors e.g. lesson plans Learning & Skills Centre
Why a JISC repository service? • Provides hosting service for JISC-funded content and pointers to content held on other servers • Will work within the JISC Information Environment, especially with the HE Academy “Connect” service (L&T Portal) • Part of a “landscape” of distributed repositories • Promotes sharing, re-use and re-purposing of expensive content • Stands as a national statement of the importance of creating interoperable, sustainable materials Learning & Skills Centre
