Wikigender (b) • Combining a bottom-up with a top-down approach • 3-tiers: (i) unregistered users can read, (ii) registered users can edit and (iii) partners can protect content • Quality control: The Development Centre ensures quality of information with “Official Source” label • Community: Wikigender is open for external partners to manage and maintain the site 12
Conclusions • Informed policy making requires high-quality statistics • Traditional sources of data are often insufficient • Timeliness, Scope, Quality • New actors need to be involved in data collection and dissemination • Bottom-up approach promises better information and more civic engagement for needed reforms • New Wikigender and improved GID Database 2009 17
