  5. The Managed Test Leads Volts 0.00 V Clips Volts 0.00 V Probe Amps 0.00 A Clips Temp. 27°C  To enter the Managed Test AutoTest must be in the “Home Screen” as shown here. From the Home Screen press the “ON” button once. 5

  6. Managed Mode. All accessories and lights should be off and doors closed. CARBATTERY ! 6

  7. Managed Mode. All accessories and lights should be off and doors closed. Start of the Managed Test Ensure there are no electrical loads on the battery by closing all the doors and switching off all the vehicle’s lights and accessories 7

  8. Attach test clips to both CLAMPS. Hold amps probe next to GROUND lead. ENTER First, attach the test clips to the clamps (surrounding the battery posts). Next, hold the amps probe in the same orientation it will be when clamped to the battery ground lead but hold it next to the lead so that it can be zeroed before it is attached. 8

  9. Attach clips to both CLAMPS. Hold amps probe next to GROUND lead ENTER CARBATTERY ! 9

  13. Attach amps probe to battery GROUND lead. Attach clips to both POSTS. ENTER Now open the amps probe and clamp it around all the wires attached to the negative battery terminal. Then, move the test clips so that the long jaw of each clip contacts the lead battery posts. The clip’s short jaw can contact the battery post or clamp. 13

  17. Enter battery CCA 400 (SAE) ENTER Use the up and down arrows to select the test battery size (its CCA rating). The measurement standard used for battery size is shown in brackets. Australia and the USA use SAE while Europe uses mostly DIN or Ah. In the demonstration test the test battery size is 350 (SAE). 17

  19. ENTER Screening Tests Continue Managed Test Battery Rejected. High Resistance DON’T JUMP START Battery Rejected.Suspected Shorted Cell Clean & Retest Battery Terminals Corroded 19

  20. CONNECT jumper leads GROUND to CHASSIS LAST. Start service vehicle ENTER The demonstration test battery has passed the screening tests but AutoTest has detected that it is too discharged to start the test vehicle so it prompts for jumper leads (booster cables) to be connected and for the service vehicle to be started. 20

  23. Testing battery Do not start motor Vch 13.95 Ich 35.2 please wait 0:20 Bad Cell Test Battery RejectedInter-cell fault DO NOT JUMP START Continue Managed Test Sequence AutoTest knows that the test battery is connected to a good charging system (the service vehicle’s) it now tests that the battery is accepting charge and tests that it does not have a bad cell condition. 23

  24. STOP service vehicle Start TEST vehicle Amps 120.2 ENTER The demonstration test battery does not have a bad cell and it’s charge acceptance is OK so AutoTest prompts for the test vehicle to be jump started. The amps reading at the bottom of the screen can be used to get an indication of the starter motor current draw during engine cranking. 24

  25. V 14.22 I 12.1 Check batt recovery. REMOVE jumper leads if OK. ENTER This screen asks the operator to check that the vehicle will not stall once the jumper leads are removed. When the charge voltage is OK and the test battery is accepting a good amount of charge, then the jumper leads should be removed. 25

  29. Testing alternator. Do not stop motor. Vch 13.96 Ich 13.2 Please wait 4:20 AutoTest now has the test battery connected to the test vehicle’s charging system. This period of testing is called dynamic testing. Firstly, AutoTest checks the alternator to make sure it is charging the test battery properly. 29

  30. Testing battery. Do not stop motor. Vch 14.22 Ich 13.2 Please wait 4:01 Next, AutoTest checks the battery. The amount of time AutoTest takes to test the battery depends on the state of charge of the battery being tested. AutoTest allows more time for a discharged battery to “come good” during charge than it does for a well charged battery. 30

  31. Testing battery Do not stop motor Vch 14.22 Ich 18.2 Please wait 0:10 Was battery OK for Drain Test at start of Managed Test? Continue Managed Test No Yes Test Completed Continue toresults display 31

  32. Vch 14.24 Ich 18.4 Drain Test Stop motor ONLY if OK. ENTER The test battery was too discharged to reveal a current drain at the start of the managed test (when it is usually performed). Because the amps probe has been measuring high amps during cranking and charging, it must be re-zeroed before looking for a small key-off current drain. 32
