Homework – French Revolution. Enlightenment DBQ.
E N D
Enlightenment DBQ Following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in 476CE, Western Europe was plunged into a period of economic and intellectual stagnation. Feudal lords provided basic security and safety while the doctrine of the Catholic Church was held as unquestionable. Facilitated by trade and cross-cultural contacts such as the Crusades and the Reconquista, there was a re-awakening of classical thought supplemented by new discoveries from the Islamic World, India and China. This launched the Scientific Revolution in Western Europe and its new methods of approaching nature and human existence. While the thinkers of the Enlightenment mirrored those of the Scientific Revolution in acceptance of the laws of nature and the importance of rational thought and observation, they went further trying to use their ideas to advance humanity.
