My reflection ofwhen zachary beaver came to town BY Kimberly willis holt
Summary • A boy named Toby was with his friend Cal. They were in line to see a boy named Zachary Beaver, the fattest kid in the world. His guardian named Paulie Rankin took him to Texas. Cals brother Wayne was in the Vietnam war. Toby’s mom was in a competition to be a country singer. A girl that Toby likes is named Scarlett came and asked if they would take her little sister Tara to see him. When they got inside he was fat. Cal saw a golden box, and Zachary said he was all over the world. When they went out they went to their favorite place, the Bowl O Rama. They started leaving food on his doorstep. They saw little kids kicking the trailer so they started throwing rocks at the kids. They took Zach to the drive in movie. Then Wayne died and Toby’s mom didn’t win. They had a plan to get Zachary baptized. They got everyone and Zach got baptized. Then they had the Lady Bug Waltz. Zachary then left the town.
Will Zachary ever remember his visit to Antler? This happened from chapter 13 and 14 to the end • I think that Zachary will remember his trip to Antler for a long time. First, he was crammed in the trailer and had to wait until Paulie came back. Cal asked what was in the box and he remembers him almost getting baptized and his moms death. Also, Kate, Cal, and Toby took him to the drive in movie and people were making comments about him. He got baptized at Gossimer Lake, and almost couldn’t get pulled out! Those were some bad things but some good things are that he was apart of the Lady bug Waltz and the fact he did get baptized. Last, he almost got put up for adoption and he met good friends like Cal, Kate, and Toby.
How is Toby Confused In Chapter 13? • Toby was confused in chapter 13 because there is another letter from his mom, and his mom split up with his dad. I thought it was a little selfish, because to not open it on page 128. It might have been good news! He is also confused because Cal wants to take Zachary to the drive in movie! I think its thoughtful because he was crammed in the trailer for a long time.
What would I rate the book? • I thought the book was good and deserves a nine. I had humor when Tara peed her pants from seeing Zachary. There was suspense when Wayne left and when I didn’t know if Toby’s mom would win or not. There was sadness when Wayne died and Toby’s mom and dad split. I didn’t know Zachary was lying about all those places he said he has been to. It was also funny when The Judge started talking funny to Toby. My favorite guy in the book is Ferris because he helped with the baptism. He also gave Toby and Cal breakfast for free. That’s why this book deserves a 9 out of 10.
