  2. Topic Selection The attitudes of society towards World War II and the Vietnam War were very different. There are many reasons, including economics and the appeal of a stable job in the military versus a non-stable career, which may have caused these strong opinions. Because of the differing attitudes surrounding the two wars though, the veterans of each were treated very differently upon their return to the United States of America from service. The specific effects of society’s treatment of these veterans is unique and most likely had various long term effects on the veterans, their families and friends, as well as society as a whole. Based on the high regard for World War II and the controversy surrounding the Vietnam War, these attitudes quite possibly translated into the treatment of the war veterans and caused them either glory or pain, depending on which war they were a part of. Society quite possibly affected a veteran’s home life, self image, career, relationships, and overall quality of life, based on which war they participated in.
