  1. Iola L. Woodell SWK 4910 November 1, 2012 Competency 8

  2. Engage in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being. Social work practitioners understand that policy affects service delivery, and they actively engage in policy practice. Social workers know the history and current structures of social policies and services; the role of policy in service delivery; and the role of practice in policy development.

  3. 8.1 • Analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that advance social well-being • Example: As a committee we met on Tuesday discussing client rules and consequences. A rule that I advocated for change was allowing clients to have “pleasure toys”. We have been having a increased number of clients sneaking men into the facility and I feel this could eliminate this if they were able to please themselves. Also this would keep them from breaking rules that get them discharged from the facility so they are able to work on their recovery.

  4. 8.2 • Collaborate with colleagues and clients for effective policy action. • Example: Attended a Corporate Performance Improvement Committee (CPIC) meeting on Tuesday discussing client rules and consequences. We discussed our rules evaluated the severity of the consequences.
