Notes • The Egyptian chariot betrayed its Asiatic origin in a number of ways by the names of its parts which were Semitic. • The chariot was a fairly light vehicle for Ancient Egyptians and other people. • We don’t have much information of what happened with the Roller once the chariot was invented. • in Europe, the Middle East, India , and China, all rulers from petty chiefs to great Pharaohs took the chariots as part of their master defense. • To help the chariot improve , saddle pads were placed on the horses’ backs , and a yoke was attached to them, preventing the horse from slipping from the harness.
More Facts • The chariot was built with pieces of wood which had been bent into the required shape. • The spokes of wheels were made by bending six pieces of wood into a V-shape. • Chariots were introduced to Egypt by the Hyksos dynasty.
Oh So Many Facts! • The so called Florence chariot, is the only known model of the Egyptian chariot that was evolved from the Hyksos’ chariots. • Rosellini, an Italian Egyptologist, believed the chariot was acquired as war booty. • The chariot is characterized by a four spoke wheel.
Extra Notes • When the Egyptians got the chariot, they helped improve and evolve it for more and better uses like war. • There is only one model of the original chariot. • Since the chariot has no springs, it isn’t a very good mountain vehicle. • Two types of chariots were made: one for a “get around town vehicle,” and one for war.
