  2. INTRODUCTION • There are internal and external factors that can affect the academic performance of the students during pre-clinical and clinical years. • Researcher found that students who attend classes regularly obtained greater CGPA compared to those who absent from class. • This is supported by the Marburger (2001) who concluded that students who missed class on a given date were significantly more likely to respond incorrectly to questions which are in relation to material covered that day than were students who were present.

  3. Students who are actively engage in learning process are observed to have greater CGPA (Ali et al., 2009). According to Sansgiry and Sail, (2006), strategies of studying can contribute to the academic performance of the students. According to Mouzan et al. (1991), the older students poor performance were generally affected to financial problems and family responsibilities which may cause major stress or tension that affect academic performances.

  4. RESEARCH QUESTIONS • Is there any difference between the factors affecting academic performance during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students? • Is there any difference between academic performance during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students ?

  5. HYPOTHESIS • There is a difference between the factors affecting academic performance during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students. • There is a difference between academic performance during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students

  6. General Objective 1. To determine the factor that affects the academic performance most during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES • To compare academic performance during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students • To compare factors that affecting academic performance during pre-clinical and clinical years of Audiology and Speech Sciences students

  7. METHODOLOGY • Study design • Retrospective cohort study • Questionnaires are distributed to the selected undergraduates from Audiology and Speech Sciences Department. • Target population • All students from Audiology and Speech Sciences Department in National University Malaysia (UKM).

  8. METHODOLOGY • Sampling method: • Purposive sampling • Sampling frame: • Name list of all third year and fourth year Audiology and Speech Sciences students which can be obtained from Audiology and Speech Sciences Department. • Sample unit • A student either third year or fourth year from Audiology and Speech Sciences Department

  9. METHODOLOGY • Sample size: • Total subject:45 students.(20: third year students , 25 students from fourth year students) • n0 =Z2p(1-p)/e2 = (1.6452)(0.5)(0.5)/(0.12) = 67 • n = n0/1+ [(n0-1)/N] =67/1+[(67-1)/139] = 45 N=amount of total population Z= Z-score p=estimated proportion of an attribute that is present in the population e= confidence interval

  10. Inclusion criteria: • All the third year and fourth year Audiology and Speech Sciences Students • Exclusion criteria: • Audiology and Speech Sciences students who withdraw from the courses. • Data Collection - The questionnaire will be distributed and it will be collected on the same week.

  11. Variables • Independent variables: • Factors that affecting academic performance (Stress, time management, class attendance and learning style) • Dependent variables: • Academic performance of Audiology and Speech Sciences students during pre-clinical and clinical years.

  12. Conceptual Framework • Academic performance of pre-clinical years will be defined as average of Purata Nilai Gred Semester (PNGS) from first year until second year first semester. • Academic performance of clinical years will be defined as average of PNGS from second year second semester until third year first semester.
