  3. LOGO This is the logo for the Forum Zghazagh Laburisti (FZL)

  4. ABOUT US Forum Zghazagh Laburisti (FZL) or the english name Labour Youth Forum is the (active) youth branch of the Malta Labour Party (PL). It is a non profitable organisation that adopt a social democtratic belief. FZL was established in 1950’s. Any person between the age of 16 and 35 can become a member, irrespective of sex, race, ethnic, religious, or cultural origin, as long as they agree with the organization’s principles. The scope of this organisation is to encourage a social democratic political interest in a progressive way among the maltese youths. FZL with continuous ongoing work allows the youths to improve their abilities and build more confidence in themselves. FZL together with its EU partners is working in favour of a new social europe that invests and strenghten the solidariety of people.

ABOUT US (cont) Aims & Objectives • To help young members play a full and active role within the labour party. • To organise local social activities for young Labour Party members. • To train and politically educate young Labour Party members. • To change the culture, particularly the meetings culture, of the Labour Party at branch and constituency level, and to organise more social activities. • To persuade more young people to vote Labour at local, European and general elections. • To recruit and retain many more young people into Labour Party membership. • To campaign against all forms of discrimination and prejudice, especially those based on race, colour, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender. • To cut through bureaucracy.

ABOUT US (cont) To be able to reach its goals, FZL adopts a political strategy based on social justice that : • gives equal opportunities to all; • Gives equal benefits of funding coming from the EU; • gives good education to everyone and of a high standard; • can guarantee social / health services of high standard to everyone. FZL has over 15 branches and over 6,000 members. These branches work hand in hand with each other to reach out the youths in their locality. FZL maintain excellent relations with other regional and local committees in Malta and with other Youth Organizations in Europe. FZL is also a full member of the Young European Socialist (ECOSY) and the International Union for Social Youths (IUSY).

  11. SOCIAL NETWORKS – FACEBOOK FZL executive enphasis that each brach of the organisation has its own profile to be able to reach all the youths from all around the country. FZL executive makes it clear to all the importance of a standard in its branding and promotion. The official organisation logo is used in all forms of media.

  12. ACTIVITIES Largely, our activities relate to social activities both at home and abroad. Our intervention expands into issues of internal governing, in an effort to influence the outcomes of policies. In this respect, we try to look at policies from a critical perspective, but at the same time be positive by expressing our own position on a given matter. Furthermore, we organize activities in order to bring to the surface the problems of the youth and work towards their solution, cultural and sports activities, summer camps, international seminars, youth programmes and take part in fund raising activities for various social purposes.

MEDIA • FZL has its weekly program for youths on the PL radio station • FZL members are invited weekly to youth programs like straight2dpoint and Newsroom to discuss current affairs issues in relation to youths. • FZL issue regular press releases on current affairs. • FZL members are regular writers in local newspapers and on internet blogs.

  16. INTERNATIONAL FZL members take part regularly in Beureau meetings and conferences organised by the ECOSY and IUSY. Apart from that small groups travel regularly to Brussels, Belgium for orientation visits at the EU Parliament , the European Commission and the Party of European Socialists (PES) headquarters. Further more members often take part in projects under the Youth in Action programme of the EU. These projects relate to youth exchanges, EVS, Youth democracy projects, Training courses and seminars. These projects are sometimes hosted by the same FZL or other NGO’s in Malta and Internationally as a partner organisation.
