Staffing • January 2009 – HT appointed • January 2009 – supply teacher in P2/3 • June 2009 – PT appointed secondment • August 2009 – NQT for session 09/10 • August 2009 – supply Learning Assistant P1-3 • June 2010 – 3 retirements, 1 transfer, 1 NQT attained GTCS appproval • June 2010 – PT appointed permanently • August 2010 – 3 class teachers appointed • August 2010 – full LA complement
Staffing 2 • 7 teachers, including HT, PT and SfL teacher • 5 composite classes (4 full with 25 pupils and one with 2 places remaining) • Supported by visiting teachers in Music, PE and French, • 2 Learning Assistants, Admin and Janitor • 1 Behaviour Support Assistant, • 3 voluntary helpers, • 1 Further Education College student plus teaching students throughout session
Celebrating Success 1 • Improving pupils’ attainment and achievement: • Our attendance rate at 95.34% is above Midlothian and national averages and has improved by 1.5%, over the last three years. • Our exclusion rates are low, at 0% decreasing from 1.7% the previous session. • Free meal entitlement (FME) increased from … • Our attainment is above both Midlothian and national comparator schools average: • Reading: 90% • Writing: 86% • Maths: 92%
Celebrating Success 2 • Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within and beyond the life of the school • Midlothian Athletics Champions – outdoor, Runners up – indoor • Midlothian Basketball Championship – runners-up • Before-school, lunch-time, after-school and extra-curricular clubs and activities • Health and wellbeing focus days/weeks for pupils and staff • Partnership with NHS Lothian and Midlothian catering – Breakfast Club • Partnership with parents and Active Schools team
Celebrating Success 3 • Developing confident individuals and successful learners through the expressive arts: • Visiting staff in music, brass and violin • Performances in school concerts and at assembly; Mayfield Nursery Garden Party and St. David’s High School Transition Dance Project for Girls and Archview Lodge Care Home
Celebrating Success 4 • Developing effective contributors and responsible citizens through enterprising and citizenship education: • Butterfly farm in P1/2, P2/3 creating a play, P4/5 raising awareness of endangered animals; Whole school Fair Trade and Easter Fete by P6/7 to name a few • Charity fundraising e.g.RNIB, Hearing Dogs and • Partnership with MISSIO and SCIAF • School Themes: citizenship and Eco Schools
