What are the CIVITAS National City Networks? • CIVINET (CIVITAS National City Networks): A group of national and regional networks that promote the CIVITAS approach at a local level • Benefits for members:Members exchange information in their own language and within their own legal/institutional context thus overcoming some of the barriers for local authorities and other organisations interested in learning from CIVITAS experience • Added Value for Europe: CIVINET encourages wider take-up of sustainable mobility measures and policies, and fosters dialogue with the European Union and national governments about transport policy issues, legislation, regulations, and funding
The CIVINET Approach • A light touch at EU level – emphasis on the national networks • A National Network Manager and Secretariat for each network • Generic terms of reference BUT • Each network is established according to local needs with appropriate links to other national bodies
Next Steps • Launch of CIVINET Slovenia, October 2012 • FP7 2013 (July 2012 Call for Proposals) • ACTIVITY 7.2.3. ENSURING SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY • SST.2013.3-3. Capitalising CIVITAS knowledge and experience • Budget will be set aside to establish complementary or maintain existing national/regional networks to promote awareness, ensure results dissemination and take-up following the approach taken in already established CIVINET networks • Additional funding may become available to support further expansion
Want to join us? • If you are interested in establishing a CIVINET network in your country or region, talk to us! • You will need a sponsoring city or regional authority (preferably with CIVITAS experience) and probably a consultant to organise the activities • You will need to produce a Business Plan showing how you expect the network to function in your country/region, the financial arrangements, and letters of support from other authorities • We will help you to get organised and will include you in the family as soon as possible
