Kolata and C. K. Nimz, editors This volume summarizes more than a century of earth science investigations in Illinois by geologists who are eager to share their insights about how the state’s mostly unseen geology affects, and is affected by, life on the surface. Illinois Basin-Decatur ProjectMidwest Geological Sequestration Consortium • Permit modification was received Mar. 25, 2011 that allows completion for the monitoring/verification well for pressure and fluid sampling. • Work is underway and will be finished by the end of June, with a completion report due to Illinois EPA. • Compression/dehydration facility is nearly complete and startup activities (8 weeks duration) will begin in late July. • Startup of CO2 injection is targeted for mid to late September, but a final letter from Illinois EPA will still be required.

Industrial Carbon Capture and Storage(ICCS) Project • ADM is lead with same team: ISGS and Schlumberger Carbon Services, plus Richland College as a venue for outreach and education. • Permit application in progress under new EPA Class VI rules for Underground Injection Control. • Decatur project site is about ¾ mi northwest of MGSC injection well; first in the world with two nearby plumes to monitor. Modeled plumes after 3 years of MGSC injection and 3 years of ICCS injection at higher rate MGSC ICCS
FutureGen 2.0 Project • USDOE oxy-combustion retrofit of Ameren PC power plant at Meredosia; CO2 piped to saline reservoir sequestration site. • FutureGen Industrial Alliance selected Morgan County as their first-choice sequestration site. • ISGS participated in site screening and data analysis (concluded) • ISGS is under contract to provide outreach and education. • Environmental Impact Study (EIS) meetings will be held in early June in Morgan County, plus Douglas and Christian Counties where the two alternate sites are. • ISGS currently has a proposal in to the Alliance to fund initial groundwater monitoring in Morgan County in advance of a possible stratigraphic test well to be drilled this summer.
