ADN Program • The Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares students to sit for the NCLEX-RN in order to become Registered Nurses. • ADN program is four (4) semesters long • 1st semester: Nursing Practice I • 2nd semester: Medical/Surgical Nursing I, Behavioral Health Nursing & Pharmacology I • 3rd semester: Medical/Surgical Nursing II & Maternal Newborn Nursing • 4th semester: Medical/Surgical Nursing III, Pediatric Nursing & Pharmacology II
Selective Admission Process Admission into the ADN program is based upon Selective Admission Process. 1. TEAS 2. AAS Credit Hours Earned 3.Grades in BIO’s and MAT 4. ACT 5. Nursing GPA • Preference given for completion of BIO 137, BIO 139, BIO 225 and MAT course prior to application. • Average points of Accepted candidates Fall 2011: 139.9 • Average points of Accepted candidates Spring 2012: 136.5 • Average points of Accepted candidates Fall 2012: 146.4 • ADN Applicant Ranking Method.
ADN Minimum Requirements • Current application for admission or presently enrolled at OCTC • Declare major Associate in Science with Nursing as student group • High School (if required by Admissions office) and all other colleges attended transcripts on file at the OCTC Office of the Registrar (Note: OCTC will only accept transfer courses as designated by the OCTC Registrar) • ACT Composite score ≥20 • ATI academic preparedness level ≥ Proficient on the TEAS V. 5 Assessment (www.atitesting.com) • Active status of the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry (www.kbn.ky.gov) • BLS (Basic Life Support) for the Healthcare Provider with AED training • American Red Cross/American Heart
ADN Minimum Requirements • Completion of 10-13 hours of Pre-Nursing courses by end of Summer 2013 semester • BIO 137 • PSY 110 • MAT 110/150 (or higher) • Computer Literacy (CIT 105 recommended-This can be met by Challenge Exam. LPN-RN Minimum Requirements • Current application for admission or presently enrolled at OCTC • Declare major Associate in Science with Nursing as student group • High School and all other colleges attended transcripts on file at the OCTC Office of the Registrar (Note: OCTC will only accept transfer courses as designated by the OCTC Registrar) • ACT composite score ≥20 • ATI Academic Preparedness level ≥ Proficient on the TEAS V.5 Assessment (www.atitesting.com) • BLS (Basic Life Support) for the Healthcare Provider with AED training • American Red Cross/American Heart • Active unrestricted license as a Practical Nurse • Continuing student or employed as a full-time LPN 12 of the past 36 months.
LPN-RN Minimum Requirements • Completion of 17-26 hours of Pre-Nursing courses by end of Summer 2013 semester • BIO 137 & BIO 139 • PSY 110 & PSY 223 • MAT 110/150 (or higher) • Computer Literacy (CIT 105 recommended-This can be met by Challenge Exam. For more information contact the TLC at 270.686.4532) • ENG 101 (Pre or Co Requisite) • COM 181 or COM 252 (Pre or Co Requisite) • Nursing GPA ≥2.75 in Pre-Nursing courses Upon acceptance, students will enter into the second semester of the ADN Program.
Application Process • Submit completed DATA REPORT FORM (found at the end of the presentation) to : Owensboro Community & Technical College c/o Nursing Division Assistant-Academic Building 4800 New Hartford Road Owensboro, KY 42303 Fax: 270.686.4687 E-mail: Nikki.wimpelberg@kctcs.edu • All required information, including Data Report Form, official TEAS transcript (if taken at another institution), official ACT and official college transcripts, must be received by the application deadline, March 1, 2013. • Transcripts should be sent to the Office of the Registrar • Please do not submit CPR or Nurse Aide documentation until after you have been admitted.
Readmission Guidelines • Submit Readmission Application to the Director of Nursing. • Request in writing two (2) letters of recommendation from current, full-time Nursing Faculty. • Meet current guidelines for admission. • If seeking readmission into a Medical/Surgical course or Pharmacology course: take Retained Competency Exam • If more than three (3) years have elapsed since initial enrollment in the first nursing course, an applicant must repeat all nursing courses and will no longer be considered a “readmit” student. • For more detailed information on Readmission, as well as the link to the Readmission Application please visit http://www.octc.kctcs.edu/en/Academics/Departments/Nursing_Department/Readmission.aspx
Expenses • Books • 1st semester: ~$1600.00 (includes lab kit and ATI) • 2nd-4th semester: ~$1,100.00 combined total • Testing Plan • ATI Standardized Testing package is required to be purchased in the 1st semester and will be utilized throughout your Program to evaluate learning, retention of content and readiness for NCLEX: ~$550.00 • Uniforms & Equipment • Scrubs, stethoscope, scissors, penlight, goggles, etc.: ~$200.00 • Liability Insurance • Purchased annually: $20 • Criminal History Report • Completed in 1st: ~$43.00 • Physical Assessment/Required labs • Cost will vary depending on current immunization profile and insurance coverage.
Things to know • Pre Nursing Conferences must be attended prior to each application cycle and new Data Report Form submitted • To schedule to take the TEASV.5 assessment, please call Workforce Solutions at 270.686.4444 • If unsuccessful on the TEAS, a minimum 12 week waiting period is required prior to retesting. • The TEAS may only be attempted a maximum of 4 times • OCTC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and our Nursing Programs are fully approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing www.kbn.ky.gov
Things to know • Check your KCTCS student e-mail accounts often • All communication from the Nursing Department (including your acceptance or denial into the program) will occur via your KCTCS student e-mail account • If you do not have a KCTCS account, please list an alternate e-mail address on your Data Report Form • Fall 2013 Acceptance/Denial letters will be sent beginning April 2013
