    1. WELCOME!!!!!! ….to the FRUITLAND LIBRARY!!!

    2. ACCELERATED READER PHILOSOPHY Accelerated Reader is an integral part of the curriculum here at Fruitland for a number of reasons. First, Fruitland staff members are convinced that this supplementary reading program motivates students to practice their reading on a regular basis at a level, shown by research, to increase reading proficiency. Secondly, teachers are able to individualize for each student’s needs and more accurately monitor their reading progress. Thirdly, students set goals, are reinforced through immediate feedback and incentives, and become more responsible for their own achievement. It is our belief that, through this program, we will help to create life-long readers for the twenty-first century!

    18. COMMON QUESTIONS What is the philosophy behind the program? What changes have taken place since AR began? Why do kids need to read within their ZPD? What if my child wants to read outside of their ZPD? Are teachers consistent regarding expectations? How can I tell if a book is an AR book? What about other books besides AR? Are students encouraged to read other books, too? Can they receive points? How often can my child get new books? Where do the points my child accumulates in AR come from? Is it really true that my child and I can read a book together, out of his/her range, and then quiz with me in the lab? Is that even fair? How can I help my child be successful in the program? How will my child get started?

    19. THANKS! ……so much for taking the time to come to learn how the Fruitland staff utilizes AR as we strive to develop great readers!!
