  2. Poor life • Some poor orphans lived in a 'prentice house' for apprentices (trainee workers). They worked shifts - one set of children worked while the other set were asleep in bed.

  3. Who were the victorians • Queen Victoria marred her handsome cousin Prince Albert. Victoria's first language was German. At three years old she learnt to speak English and French. Later she learnt to speak Hindustani because she was ruler of India as well. Victoria didn't go to school. She was taught at home

  4. Factories Children were often forced to work almost as soon as they could walk. This was not something new to the Victorian period as children had always been been expected to work for hundreds of years. Many were used as cheap labour.
