Rebellion Hits Home • People feltoppressed and misrepresented • Conflict and war between frontiersmen and Native Americans • Exploit of England → Jamestown →Frontier and American Colonies • Levelling – “Meant equalizing wealth”
“Rogues and Vagabonds” • Poor whites began to emigrate from England, Ireland and other parts of the British Isles • Indentured Servants sold like Slaves • Had to work for freedom
The Other Slaves • They were treated awfully • Women raped and beatings were common place • Would control their sexual lives • General abusive treatment to all the servants
The 10% is Born • Poor whites did not own land and had very little rights • Little opportunity for “mobility” • Growing tensions but not enough organization
Things heat up! • The French-Indian war added greater conflict • The British Government had spies and • Treaty to not expand further territory in the Americas • Top Ten percent not happy
The rise of a Nation • The western frontier was seen as the solution • Poor whites would be moved out • Growing discontent with England • The spark of a revolution
