August 2013 Miss Anderson’s P1b Classroom News Congratulations everyone on surviving the first few weeks at school! The boys and girls are looking fabulous in their smart school uniforms and we are all settling in really well. A few notes…. P.E. will be on a Wednesday this term. P.E. kits are kept on our pegs and should contain shorts, t-shirt and a pair of gym shoes. Thank you to those who have already sent a gym kit to school. Please be aware that free, fresh fruit is provided at snack time on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for all children. A snack from home is therefore not always necessary on these days. I will be encouraging all children to stay well hydrated throughout the day to keep us all feeling alert. Please provide your child with a water bottle on a daily basis. We have started their year by learning the new routines of the classroom. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at ‘People who help us in School’ to encourage all children to feel safe, happy and settled in their new learning environment. Working together We are all learning to become more independent. This includes taking responsibility for our own belongings, getting changed for P.E. and coming into school all by ourselves in the morning. We appreciate your support in encouraging all pupils to become more confident with their morning routine. Could we please now ask all parents to move back behind the children’s lines to help promote this confidence and to help support the children who are finding the numbers of adults around the lines a little overwhelming. It would also help if you could step forward or give a big wave at the end of the day when your child is at the front of the line as it can sometimes be tricky for us to see you! Tuesday 27th August – ‘Powerwise’ workshop on electricity safety. We all sat beautifully and listened carefully and learned a lot. Thursday 5th September – ‘Soft start’ morning. Parents invited to class 9-9.30 to get a feel for our morning routine (letter to follow) Friday 6th September – P1 ‘Evening News’ Photographs N.B. Please ensure that all items of school uniform, lunch boxes, bags and water bottles are clearly marked with your child’s name. This will aid us greatly in returning any lost, swapped or misplaced items to their rightful owner! Finally… I have enjoyed getting to know the boys and girls a little better over the first busy few weeks in school. I hope to get to know some of our lovely parents more too! If you have any questions, concerns or good news to share, please do contact the office so that I can give you a ring or arrange a chat in school. Miss Anderson
