  2. Food • The word for meals is “gohan” • Rice is a important is meal inJapan • They eatwhite rice , fish, and meat • They usually eat vegetables

  3. Housing • If you enter the house you have to take off your shoes and put on slippers on • Houses in Japan are made of wood pillars • Unlike Western houses Japan homes there floors are tatami floors.

  4. Clothes • They wear robes that are called “Kimonos” • When children go to school they wear normal clothes

  5. Culture • The word for makeup is “Kumadori” • They do performances with singing musical accompaniment a lot • The word for singing is Hayashi

  6. Education • In Japan elementary schools last for 6 years • Middle school lasts for 3 years • High schools last for 3 years • Universities last for 4 years

  7. Government • In Japan the 3 branches are legislative, executive, and judicial • The Diet comprises has 480 seats

  9. Money • The word for money is yen • There are four kinds of bills (10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, 2,000 yen 1,000 yen) and six kinds of coins (500 yen, 100 yen, 50 yen, 10 yen, 5 yen, 1 yen) used.

  10. Location • Japan consists of several thousands of islands, of which Honshu, Hokkaido,Kyushu and Shikoku are the four largest • Japan's closest neighbors are Korea, Russia and China. The Sea of Japan separates the Asian continent from the Japanese archipelago.

  11. Landmarks/Historical Places • Stone Age People lived by hunting and gathering • Jomon Period Permanent settlement began; people use polished stone tools and earthenware

  12. What I Learned • I learned that they have different school schedules than we have here. • They have different money than we do. • They have different buildings. • They have a lot of differences compared to us. • But they have a lot in common with us as well.
