  2. el PRETÉRITO el IMPERFECTO The preterite tells you about an action that started and ended at a specifictime in the past. The imperfect tells you about ongoing actions without saying when they startedor ended.

  3. el PRETÉRITO 1.Simple or isolated actions and actions that were repeated a specificnumber of times. Fui a España el verano pasado. I went to Spain last summer.

  4. el IMPERFECTO 1.Habitual actions and actions that were repeated an undetermined/unlimited number of times. Todos los veranos íbamos a España. Every summer, we went to Spain.

  5. el PRETÉRITO 2. Actions that occurred during or at a specific time. Jugué al tenis de tres y media a cinco en punto. I played tennis from three thirty to 5 o’clock..

  6. el IMPERFECTO 2.Progressive actions that were going on for an indefinite period of time. Durante la película, todos dormían/estaban durmiendo. During the movie, everybody was sleeping.

  7. el PRETÉRITO 3.Mainactions and single events; and/or narration of a series of past actions or events (actions that constitute the story line). ●the interruption to an on-going action. Me di con la puerta, me caí y me rompíel tobillo. I bumped into the door, I fell, and I broke my ankle.

  8. el IMPERFECTO 3.The background and circumstances of a main action; for example: ●time and weather; ●age; outward or physical appearance; ●feelings, beliefs, emotional states; and ●other external circumstances and actions in progress.

  9. el IMPERFECTO 3.cont. Era el mediodía, hacía calor y yo estaba cansado(a). It was noon, it was hot and I was tired.
