A year to remember As blossoms burst through thick bunches of mango leaves, branches grow heavy with fruits and the faint yet sweet fragrance of neem flowers pervade the air, we know its springtime and a New Year! With springtime comes the arrival of yet another financial year. Corporate Social Responsibility at JSPL Angul has witnessed a busy financial year with new initiatives, events and activities galore. With achievements come greater responsibilities and goals. The new financial year having commenced, we look forward to newer challenges, newer avenues of hope and bonding. The lessons that we learnt in the year that went by will lead us to greater growth and recognition. Here’s what yesterday was like…

Community health care Providing quality community health-care support ED, Mr. D.K Saraogi flagging off Kishori express II at Jarasingha Village health camps in the periphery: Dabardhua Primary school Kishori Express- the adolescent anaemia control drive- coverage reaching more than 17886 adolescent girls Awareness Anti tobacco Rally at Benagadia

  4. Community health care CSR & OHC organise Specialist mega health camp by screening of 1500 people on the occasion of Chairman, Shri. Naveen Jindalji’s Birthday, in collaboration with Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar 24*7 ambulance support for District Administration flagged off by Chief Minister, Mr. Naveen Pattnayak, providing critical care beyond the community Blood donation camp at Rajeev Gandhi Smruti Pith, Banarpal – Executive Director, JSPL, Mr. D.K.Saraogi congratulating Mr.Subrata Mishra, a voluntary donor, on his 99th blood donation.

  5. Voluntary Blood donation camp on the occasion of 8thPunya Tithi of Founder, Shri. O.P.Jindal Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) observed the 8th Punyatithi (death anniversary) of the founder and Great Visionary Shri Om Prakash Jindal by organising two voluntary blood donation camps in partnership with District Red Cross Blood Blank at Angul town and in partnership with Rautala Yuva Gosthi in village Rautala  in which more than 210 units of blood  were collected.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION SUPPORT PROGRAMME • “A quality education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, provide children with the protection they need from the hazards of poverty, labour exploitation and disease, and given them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential.” • Education initiatives’ highlights at CSR Angul • Corporate Social Responsibility activity, JSPL, Angul responded to the expectations of the State Government to equip the 40 Anganwadi Centres situated in 27 villages spread across 2 Blocks with educational tools and playschool infrastructure like teaching-learning materials, kitchen utensils, water filters, mats and playthings in association with ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) and Angul district administration.

Quality education in the periphery The Torch Bearers: first batch of Jindal Vidyapith en route examination hall appearing for Class 10th board examination... • Improvement of Teachers Student Ratio in 44 schools ( 1:76 to 1:42) through 91 Community Teachers • Good luck Gifts: A token for Board examinees to 1124 students from 15 High Schools

  8. Quality education in the periphery Utkal Diwas at Jindal Vidyapith: children joyfully celebrated with one act plays, songs and sweets. Happy faces at Aarambh Utkarsh : acknowledging the meritorious students from the village communities Provision of text books to children of Jail inmates

SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD OPTIONS & WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT • Generating sustainable livelihood initiatives for the community and building women entrepreneurs. • As a new initiative, the Pedal operated Agarbatti making unit was introduced in the CSR Livelihood Centre at Gopabandhu Nagar, Bada Mahitala, Angul. The pedal-operated Agarbatti making unit is meant to provide livelihood to village women was inaugurated in collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) & ITC in presence of more than 150 women at the Livelihood centre, Mahitala R&R Colony.

Sustainable Livelihood Initiatives • Women engaged in income generation activities : • Tailoring and stitching center • Herbal body care products • diversified jute products • Agarbatti making, • Low cost sanitary napkin • Food preservation and processing, food processing activities across villages

Celebration of National girl child day- 24th of January Haemoglobin check up of adolescent girls through Kishori express Girls’ toilet gets inaugurated at Jarasingha Girls’ High school Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) observed the National Girl Child Day with its land mark achievement of  coverage of  haemoglobin test and supply of need based iron tablets to more than 15300 girls  through operation of ‘Kishori Express- a customized medical van in Chhendipada and Banarpal block of Angul district with the sole focus of controlling adolescent anaemia in girls and the resultant IMR and MMR in the District. Additionally, a Girls toilet was inaugurated in order to address safe hygiene practices and reduce drop out rates among school going girls.

A basket of livelihood initiatives- An effort to enhance farm-based productivity System of Rice Intensification(SRI) demonstration at Mahitala With the expansion of non-farm opportunities and delocalisation of livelihoods comes the challenge of keeping lives connected to agricultural resources, and therefore, land. Hybrid Maize cultivation at Mahitala Pisciculture training & demonstration at Divya Sarovar

  13. Livestock & Community Dairy Green fodder, 21 Azolla pits for adding nutrition value to the cow’s fodder We at CSR have initiated the Community Dairy project recently at R & R Colony, Mahitala. In our country breed dairy unit, we have 15 cows as of now with a collective Enzyme II milk yield of 40 litres per day with. There are 21 Azolla pits which have the production capacity of 20kg a day. Azolla has nutritive value and is good source of protein for the cows.

Watershed Activity A People-JSPL-NABARD collaborative Project Pit digging & staggered trenches MoU signed on 28th February 2013 Watershed development program is different from all the earlier rural development programs in many aspect. One of it is that a holistic approach is adopted right from program planning stage. -A total amount of Rs.4.47 Lakhs have been released to VillageWatershed Committees for the purpose.- A total no. of 34 such families have been given Rs.12000/- each.- 22 no. families are from village Maratira and 12 from Derjang.- Out of 34 families, 11 and 6 nos. of families have opted for Goateryand Dairy(country breed) respectively. - A  committee has been formed by each of the VWCs for the purchase, having an AFC official as member to make the process transparent..
