Fellowships • Fellowships are awarded to support the research of women in science (Over $500,000 awarded to over 400 women scientists since 1941) • Fellowships are an untapped resource to supplement/fund your research (10-14 awarded/yr) • Fellowships establish connections between past and present fellowships winners or current fellowship donor.

14. Awards • Honorary Membership- Highest honor SDE/GWIS can bestow - Excellence in Scientific Research or Excellence in Science Teaching • First honoree was Florence R. Sabin in 1926, who was the first woman to hold full professorship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and first woman elected to the Natl. Academy of Sciences • Meritorious Award-recognizing members who have given outstanding and devoted service to SDE/GWIS at the National Level.

Our National Goals • To provide ethical and competent oversight and accountability for the organization as a whole for maintaining the 501(c)3 non profit status with IRS. • To provide guidance and support for chapters • Financial support and by-laws support for chapter start-up. • Assist with Chapter websites as requested. • Communicate to Chapter Liaisons and Chapter President • To provide a sustainable Fellowships program to foster the careers of women who conduct research in the sciences • To provide networking, mentorship and leadership opportunities for GWIS members • To have an annual meeting to do Organization’s business.
