  18. High School Strategy

  19. Our High School Strategy Vision • “Increase the number of black actuaries by building awareness of the actuarial profession among black students and their influencers.”

  20. Our Three Strategies • Develop and maintain relationships with targeted high school level students and influencers • Leverage organizations that support our vision • Develop engagement and delivery methods that match resources available

  21. Strategy 1: Develop and maintain relationships with targeted high school level students and influencers • Develop and execute a strong plan to identify target schools • SAT scores, diversity stats, etc. • Identify and engage key influencers in target schools (3 year plan) • Develop sample engagement strategies for schools (teachers), parents, student, graduates • Review/evaluate annual success and revise list accordingly • Expand activities across schools and new schools

  22. Strategy 2: Leverage organizations that support our vision • Local affiliates to contact certain organizations that have a black focus • Ex. Jack & Jill, Inroads, Gems, Links, MESA, Black Achieves • Book IABA into University outreach programs (minority outreach programs) • Hook up with Universities that may not have outreach programs – work with IABA to foster • Membership listing – contact college student members to get names of high school math teachers

  23. Strategy 2: Leverage organizations that support our vision (continued) • Target organizations that offer math competitions • Contact organizations composed of high school math teachers • Pick affiliate to host IABA math event • Contact PSAT, identify high school students early in their career that may have math aptitude • ACT scores – purchase mailing list of minority students achieving X • Actuarial foundation

  24. Strategy 3: Develop engagement and delivery methods that match resources available • Use of media to reach broader audience • give volunteers material, do on your own time • Use of technology • Identify leader (sole focus is HS strategy) • Recruiting volunteers • City-wide events (contests/competitions/math & science fairs)

  25. Where Do We Go From Here? • What are our next steps? • Which initiatives do we want to focus on?

  26. Thank you!
