What is being socially responsibile? When a company is being socially responsible, they are being conscious of the world around them and feel they have an obligation to benefit their society. One example of a socially responsible company is a company that cares more about their workers conditions rather than if their employees are getting the job done, however necessary (at any cost ex. extended work hours, or child labor).
Socially Irresponsible Employees in Vietnam work in unsafe and harsh working conditions. They are forced to work 65 hours a week and get $0.26 a hour ($16.90 a week!). The Tae Kwang Vina Factory has 9,200 workers and makes 400,000 pairs of athletic shoes each month.
While COMPANIES are making CHILDREN work in SWEATSHOPS around the world in harsh conditions and for low wages TOMS is HELPING children around the world. TOMS, founded by Blake Mycoskie, helps children in Argentina. With every purchase of TOMS shoes, TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in Argentina. When the founder of TOMS took a trip to Argentina he noticed that children were growing up barefoot with no shoes, and decided to do something about it, so they came up with the "One for One" movement.
