Recent Procurements • Proctor U-Math Department web based proctoring • Digital Treadmill to monitor cardiac function • OrgSync - student organization tracking and communication • B-Line Medical – video/audit capture and recording playback for the nursing simulation center • GreenTraks Energy Management System – software for sustainability management course
UC Berkeley Alternate Media Settlement • Synopsis • Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) represented 3 students with print disabilities regarding barriers to alternate media. • The parties used a ‘structured negotiation process’ (vs. lawsuit) that took more than a year to complete. • Focused primarily on timely access to materials as well as library accessibility (print books/journals and catalog software) • Outcomes • Implement shorter alternate media delivery timelines • Textbooks: 10 business days • Course readers: 17 business days • Portions of critical materials: shorter (not specified in fact sheet) • Delivery of timely requests 3 days prior to start of class
UC Berkeley Alternate Media Settlement (cont) • Outcomes (cont) • Deliver ‘recommended’ materials in accessible formats • Provide ‘interim services’ (e.g. personal reader, deadline extension) • Improve library accessibility capacity/procedures • Remediate online library catalog software for screen reader access • New library print conversion system to convert within 5 business days • Implement scanning machines to allow self-service by students • Provide assistance with scanning for those with physical disabilities • Discussion • Likely precedent-setting for future OCR investigations/lawsuits • The timelines are challenging when applied to all requests • Alt media capacity requires investments to meet growing demands • Print disability issues extend beyond blindness
Additional Accomplishments • Revised ATI website • http://www.csuchico.edu/ati/index.shtml • Chico State’s ATI Strategic Plan • Accessibility and Non Discrimination EM
