  1. RaDIATEMeeting March 2013 P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  2. Agenda • RaDIATENews (MOU status, Postdoc recruitment status, FRIB, Interim Report complete etc.) • Status Updates • Stage 1 on Be • Stage 1 on Graphite • BLIP graphite progress • DPA and gas production modeling • Interim Report(?) • FRIB/MSU MatX Introduction • MARS modeling of lower energy ion beam on low-Z materials (compare to high energy proton?) P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  3. RaDIATE News • MOU • No additional news since Feb mtg • Chicago office of counter-intelligence “not currently functioning” but function is being taken over by another entity • Post-doc recruitment • Waiting on funding to be in place • SOW delayed PO with Oxford for Assoc. Costs by ~1 week • NNUF (?) • FRIB/MSU MatX initiative P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  4. Status Reports • Stage 1 Beryllium/Tungsten Status (B. Jones) • Stage 1 Graphite Status (B. Marsden) • BLIP status (N. Simos) • Modeling (sorting out DPA and gas production estimates) (B. Hartsell, N. Simos, S. Brooks, et al) • Reminder: Final report due end of May/beginning of June P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  5. White Board and IMT Tables • Stage 1 teams need to decide in the next few months whether we can work with the materials we have or whether we will need new irradiations P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  6. FRIB/MSU Strategic Partnership: MatX • Overview and Goals Presentation by Georg Bollen, Experimental Systems Division Director at FRIB, Professor at Michigan State University P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  7. Damage profile comparison • What is the energy of the many ion beam accelerator facilities? • How does the damage and gas production compare to that of high energy protons? • Can we utilize these facilities for efficient irradiations of materials? • For Be, can we use micro-mechanics? How do measurements on the micro scale tell us bulk properties? P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  8. Action Item List from February • Start Post-doc recruitment (Roberts, Hurh, Densham) • Answer graphite team’s questions (Hurh, Ammigan, Hartsell) • Develop better understanding of DPA and gas production in MARS and run prototypic target cases (Mokhov, Hartsell, Hurh, Brooks) • Contact PSI on STIP inventory (Be?)(Hurh/Densham) • Continue work to prepare for tensile testing at BLIP (Ammigan, Simos) P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  9. Action Item List from February • Investigate further availability of irradiated materials for testing (esp Be at CERN and AP-0) (Hurh/Ammigan) • Continue work on Be lit study, graphite lit studies and W studies? (All) • Arrange for March Meeting (Hurh/Ammigan) • Provide B. Jones with Be irradiation creep BNL paper (Hurh/Ammigan/Hartsell) P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting

  10. Next Meeting • PASI meeting at RAL week of April 1? • CERN/FRIB visit to Fermilab week of April 8? • Pre-snowmass planning meeting at BNL week of April 16? • So, last week in April is probably only choicefor April • What about early May instead? P. Hurh RaDIATE March 2013 Meeting
