AITCHESON’S CLASS RULES EXPOSITORY READING AND WRITING GRADE 11 2010 TO 2011 VISTA MURRIETA HIGH SCHOOL ROOM EE-12
BE ON TIME This is a rigorous course designed to prepare each student for college and university reading and writing demands. Tardiness means that the student misses material vital to that day’s agenda. Plan time wisely between classes and in the morning so that you will be in class and prepared to begin your warm-up for the day!
BE PREPARED! Eleventh graders know the ropes! Showing up to class without the required English binder, novels, SSR books, pens, pencils and paper is NOT acceptable behavior for college bound students and upper classmen! Bring your “stuff” every day! Excuses stop here!
SHOW RESPECT! Rude behaviors, name-calling, belittling, bullying, labeling, or racist and sexist comments are not permitted in this classroom! We are a diverse community and every person deserves respect including administrators, teachers and students.
BE EXTRAORDINARY! This is an advanced class! You come here with special skills in reading and writing. It is a course that expects you to give your best at all times. You are beyond ordinary; you should demonstrate how extraordinary you are with each task and in all interactions for this class!
LIVE C.L.A.S.S.! Our school is known statewide and nationally for our culture of C.L.A.S.S. Mr. Aitcheson demands that his students live the qualities of that culture in this classroom and on campus! Your display of character, leadership, attitude, scholarship and service is expected and appreciated!
Basic Class Procedures and Expectations! • All assignments are DUE as stated! Late assignments without a valid absence excuse are not accepted. Assignments due afterexcused absences are due within three (3) class days! • Homework counts! (see syllabus) • All final drafts for writing assignments must be typed and in MLA 7 formats.
More procedures and basics . . . • All assignments to be turned in must display the MLA 7 header and pagination process. Assignments not displaying these will not be graded or accepted. • No food or drink is permitted in the classroom except by agreement with Mr. Aitcheson. Water is the exception as long as it in approved containers and is re-cycled before leaving the classroom.
More . . . • Black or Blue ink is required for all hand written assignments. Pencils may be used on tests as permitted. • One person talks at a time. Wait for recognition before inserting your own commentary. If Mr. Aitcheson raises his hand it means that all discussion is to stop and that new directions are to be given.
And still more! • Clean-up your work area before leaving the classroom. Pick up paper shreds, pen parts, pencils, etc. and throw them in one of the trash bins. • No cell phones or electronic devices are allowed in this classroom. If they are seen or heard, Mr. Aitcheson will confiscate them and send them to security. (District policy)
