What is Senior Project? • Senior Project is a culminating experience that is designed to demonstrate HOW a student has grown from primary skillto sophisticated performance. • The project is comprised of 4 components: • Research Paper • Product • Portfolio • Presentation
Why do it? It’s Required! Show how you are a model for the St. Charles Parish district Learner Goals: • Knowledgeable, Competent Person (Educate yourself) • Critical Thinker (solve problems that come up) • Collaborative Contributor (work with people) • Involved Citizen (leave your world a better place) • Creative Producer (make something unique) • Self-Directed Achiever (manage yourself, get it done) • Effective Communicator (say what you mean, mean what you say)
Putting the pieces together… • Freshman Year • Select Area of Concentration • Create a Resume • Participate in professional interviews Your School-to-Career Experience • Senior Year • Complete career-specific courses (Dual Enrollment, Industry Certifications) • Attend the Satellite Center • Complete a Senior Project • Sophomore Year • Begin career-specific courses (Dual Enrollment) • Tour Satellite Center • Conduct a Job Shadow • Junior Year • Enroll in career-specific courses (Dual Enrollment, Industry Certifications) • Attend the Satellite Center • Conduct a Job Shadow
Getting Started: “Only YOU know what will work for you!” • Complete the brainstorming Graphic Organizer • Get feedback from parents & peers • Have an idea of what you want to do before you enter English IV *NOTE: No student may begin product hours until the first day of his senior year in high School.
Three things to do before August: • Get a “marble composition book” • Start listing ideas: • Topics • Possible Products • Possible areas of research • List potential mentors • Write reflectively about your ideas
