  2. Do you want to get well? How long can we sustain desire against continual disappointment? Jesus took the man back into the secret-desire of his own heart.

  3. When transformation comes, it is always the aftereffect of something else, something at the level of our hearts. Jesus relates to people by continually taking them into their hearts, to their deepest desires. John 4.10, 18, 14; 7.37-38

  4. Isaiah 55. 1-2 People had abandoned desire and replaced it with knowledge and performance as the key of life.

  5. Matthew 7.7 What is it that you want? Jesus provokes desire; he awakens it; He heightens it. John 5.39-40

  6. John 10.10 ‘ My purpose is to bring you life in all its fullness’ When life is at stake and the answer is within reach, that’s when you see human drive unmasked in all its desperation.

  7. Jesus appeals to our desire because He came to speak to it. Psalms 16.11; 42.1-2; 63.1 Christianity has nothing to say to the person who is completely happy with the way things are.
