ENERGY • Salix Funding – over half of the fund has been committed or spent (£565,368.85) • £131K pipework insulation with 1.7 yr payback • £33K MSB lighting 3.5 yr payback • Combined Heat & Power • Detailed design work of Leicester scheme underway – PIT established • City scheme – ESCo appointment imminent
WASTE • Recycling scheme now in all satellite buildings • Free collections of fluorescent tubes and batteries set-up – annual savings of c.£8,000 • New, cheaper shredding contract arranged • Waste auditing crossed boundaries with teaching and learning – now incorporated into ‘Ecological Futures’ final year Geography course
TRANSPORT • STIG established • Henry Wellcome car parking issues resolved with mini Travel Plan • Travel surveys receive good response • City Council pleased with progress of Plan • Cycle-to-Work scheme now live • Travel summary is ready for release across University
WATER • Water Audit Services auditing water use at all residential /non-residential sites • Further recommendations awaited • TOR of working group in development • Positive impacts of early feed into design meeting BIODIVERSITY/LAND MANAGEMENT CONSTRUCTION/REFURBISHMENT
COMMUNICATIONS • 10:10 – expecting to achieve 10% reduction in carbon by end of 2010 • Little Green Week – prelude to Big Green Week • Green Impact – 17 departments have now submitted workbooks for the Green Impact Awards • Universities that Count – submission made • Green League Table – submission made
Additional work completed • Env Sus Strategy to 2015 • Ticks boxes for reporting in terms of SMART objectives • Sets out high-level goals for next 5 years
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Internship • Project progressing well and extended to maximise outputs • Both Universities that Count and Green League Table have focussed upon ESD in their questions this year • Will provide information to feed into the Green Leicester web project (in the ESS)
