The Battle at Fort SumterApril 12, 1861-April 14, 1861 • Brigadier General Beauregard (Confederate) attacked Major Anderson(union) at fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. • There were no casualties for either sides for two days • Major Anderson surrendered to General Beauregard on April 14, 1861 • This battle was significant because it officially started the civil war between the Union and Confederate.

Hoke just south of the fort and General Bragg with 5,000 troops in Wilmington, North Carolina. Union Casualties -1,338 killed Confederate Casualties -583 killed

America’s future • The civil war had a big part in shaping America's future. One thing that it help was that no state can just leave the united states when they want to. The Ending • The civil war ended when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union general Ulysses s.
