  2. Key Drivers • Unprecedented demand for Indigenous demographic statistics for government reporting • Concerns raised about Indigenous demographic statistics methodologies

Aims • ascertain, document and better understand stakeholders' concerns about the qualities and limitations of existing ABS data collections • identify vehicles for improved communication with key stakeholders in the lead up to the 2011 Census-based data development and release with the aim of improving estimation, relevance, dissemination and use of Indigenous demographic statistics;

  4. Aims (cont.) • assist in fostering and building relationships between the ABS and Indigenous people, Indigenous communities, Indigenous organisations, policy makers, researchers and other users of Indigenous demographic statistics. • understand the processes users find most useful to acquire ABS Indigenous demographic statistics to ensure timely, easy and increased access.

Key Data Series • Experimental Estimates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, 2006 (cat. no. 3238.0.55.001) • Experimental Estimates and Projections, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, 1991–2021 (cat. no. 3238.0) • Experimental Life Tables for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians - 2005–2007 (cat. no. 3302.0.55.003)

  6. Key Questions • Do you have any concerns regarding the quality, limitations/ relevance of the methodologies and resulting outputs for estimates and projections; mortality estimates; and life tables/life expectancy estimates?
