Athens fought Sparta 431 B.C- 404 B.C. Most of what we know about the war was from a man named Thucydides, the 1st historian Early on Athens was hit by a plague, it killed 1/3 of the Athenians, including Pericles. In 405 B.C., Sparta began a Blockade of Athens to cut off it’s supplies and help. It won them the war Sparta defeated Athens in 404 B.C., but eventually Athens became the most important city in Greece once again and still is today. Peloponnesian War
Son of Phillip, King of Macedonia • His father was assassinated, so he became king of Macedonia at age 20 in 336 B.C. • Took over Greece, Persia and Egypt by 323 B.C., largest empire in history to that point. • When he took over lands, he modeled them after Greek cities. He used Greeks kings and culture to rule the colonies. This was called Hellenistic. The most important colonial city was Alexandria in Egypt. • Alexander died in 323 B.C. at age 32 • Greece fell to the Romans in 150 B.C. Alexander The Great
