  2. Ecstasy MDMA • Causes serotonin (regulates mood, appetite, and sleep)to be released from neurons in greats amounts • Neurons containing dopamine are also activated • Effects • Confusion • Depression • Sleep problems • Severe anxiety

  3. LSD LSD and the Brain * Binds tightly to specific receptors for Serotonin * Serotonin has many functions in the brain, but when activated by LSD causes many effects which include: 1. Rapid emotional swings 2. Altered perception 3. Delusion and visual hallucination

  4. PCP • Not a true hallucinogen • Interferes with functions of glutamate a neurotransmitter • Also causes dopamine to be released into the synapse • Effects • Altered perception of body image • Mimics symptom of schizophrenia • Delusion • Mental turmoil
