  2. Foreign Aid • The two superpowers tried to win allies by giving financial aide to other nations. • Example: • Egypt borrowed $ from the Soviet Union to build the Aswan Dam.

  3. Espionage • Fearing the enemy might be gaining the advantage, each side spied on the other. • Example: • Soviet downing of a U.S U-2 spy plane in 1960

  4. Multinational Alliances • To gain support of other nations, both the Soviet Union and the United States entered into alliances. • Examples: • NATO and Warsaw Pact • MAY NOT DO FOR POSTER.

  5. Propaganda • Both superpowers used propaganda to try to win support overseas. • Example: • Radio Free Europe broadcast programs about the rest of the world into Eastern Europe

  6. Brinkmanship • Going to the brink of war to make the other side back down. • Example: • Cuban Missile Crisis

  7. Surrogate or Proxy Wars • U.S and Soviets fought indirectly by backing opposing sides in many ways. • Examples: • Give two examples…
