ICT-Related Statistics • 1.37M PCs were installed in 2001 which is barely 2% compared to the Philippines’ population (69% private businesses, 13% households, 10% government offices, 6% educational institutions) • In 2001, only 56.25% of the total percentage of Public Secondary Schools have computers that are laboratory-based and for instructional purposes Place your logo here.
ICT-Related Statistics • There are about 86 local universities and colleges offering degrees in computer science and related programs (i.e. engineering, mathematics, etc.) and close to 400 vocational-technical schools offering short courses on computing in the country. • These schools produce about 350,000 students yearly. About 70,000 complete courses in computer engineering and another 100,000 in computer science. Place your logo here.
CASE STUDY 1 (STI Alaminos) • The aim for partnering with public/private schools is to assist in their computer literacy program particularly in remote barangay high schools where computer access is limited. • OJTs are alumni of the chosen partner school. • Some students were expected to handle actual classes and teach ICT to the students. CASE STUDY 2 (STI Santiago) • The main driver for partnering with public/private schools was the rarity of industry and corporate establishments in the area. • The students were mostly expected and tasked to do filing and encoding. Their programming skills were rarely exercised. Place your logo here.
ICT in Education Simple database systems were created to make classroom and student records more manageable. Private-Public Sector Partnership Some of the OJTs were hired by the partner institutions as regular employees upon graduation. The schools got to be proud of their alumni who in turn served as role models to their current students. OJTs learned good work habits such as time management, productivity, work ethics, and professionalism among others. Place your logo here.
