Type A _ Cause by lack of blood clotting factor VIII; approximately 85% of Hemophiliacs have type A disease. Type B _ Caused by a deficiency of factor IX. Types Of Hemophilia
What Causes Hemophilia? • Hemophilia type A and B are inherited diseases passed on to children from a gene located on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes, while males have XY chromosomes. • When a Hemophilia carrier female is pregnant there is a 50/50 chance that the Hemophilia gene will be passed on.
Symptoms Of Hemophilia • Babies have sharp teeth and bite their gums and tongue, often causing bleeding. • This and bruises from falls are usually the first signs of Hemophilia. • Bleeding into joints. • Bleeding into soft tissue and muscles. • When babies are learning to walk they fall frequently and suffer many bumps and bruises.
