  4. Diagnostic Tests… Hematologists: (Usually don’t test until first abnormal bleeding episode)‏ Family history

  5. Symptoms… bruises that are unusual in location or number nosebleeds that won't stop excessive bleeding from biting a lip or having a tooth pulled painful or swollen joints blood in the urine

  6. Complications… Deep internal bleeding Joint damage Transfusion transmitted infection Adverse reactions

  7. Risk Factors??? Internal bleeding

  8. Causes of Hemophilia??? X-linked Chromosome disorder Only missing 1 of 12 clotting factors

  9. Pathophysiology… Circulatory System: Blood is not clotting like what the average person does normally.

  10. Demographics… Anybody About 1 in 5,000 male births About 18,000 people in the United States have hemophilia usually occurs in males and less often in females

  11. Treatments Disease can't be cured (except by a liver transplant) Hypnosis and self-hypnosis Herbs Regular shots Replacing missing factor gene therapy
