  4. Emotional Development • development and growth of feelings(about oneself, family, friends, other individuals and the world at large) • Children need to develop a full range of feelings (examples?), and learn to handle them appropriately • Emotional resilience helps people face the challenges of life • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CE9Zcbd1Hw

  5. Social Development • Learning how to act as a person living with other people. • This includes understanding your role in the family, community, and the world. • Following accepted rules and acting according to what others expect - from manners to conscience- and learning how to belong in society, is social development. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCgc_-WDz0E

  6. Intellectual (Cognitive) Development • Intellectual development is the ability of a person to think and reason. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsj-Bv7UUw4

  7. Moral Development • the growth of morals and belief • Much of moral development is based on family values and the mimicking of parents. • Parents teach children morality by behaving morally and telling stories that show morality.

  8. Write a paragraph… • In your own words, explain the meaning of the phrase, “Play is the work of children.”(Maria Montessori) • Think about what we’ve learned so far about play, childhood, and development. Use your textbook for help if you get stuck. • Let’s review paragraph structure before you get started.
