Learning Outcome 1: Understand how multimedia is used to meet business objectives
BUSINESS OBJECTIVE? Business objectives are a way for an organisationto define its goals and direction. A company uses a combined strategy at every level of its operation to achieve its objective. Business objectives use strategies and tactics to implement the course and direction. It is a proactive measure rather than a reactive one. Again, this always requires first writing a business plan. In order for a company to establish a business objective, it must first understand where it stands and where it has been. It then determines what its goals are and how it will attain them. Companies generally create a document called a "strategic plan," that analyzes these factors and lays the groundwork for its combined goal. Each member and division of the organization is taken into account.

Education – E-Learning Traditionally, computer-based education programs used separate multimedia components such as texts, images, audio clips and video clips, and presented them in a sequence decided by the author. Nowadays, multimedia in education allows the programs to be user-driven, and not restricted by time. It has been shown that the use of multimedia teaching resources has helped many students to understand their studies better, and to remember things better, too. Interest in e-learning is growing fast, because students can study at a time that suits them and can study from home if they want.
Entertainment A multimedia product should entertain and engross the user. Entertainment sources can be viewed in a variety of multimedia contexts, including games, videos and DVDs. Traditional ways of viewing media are increasingly being replaced by new methods, such as downloading content to mobile phones or streaming over the internet.
Virtual Reality Flight simulation software is an example of a virtual reality resource A virtual reality programme presents you with multi-sensory information and 3D effects in real-time. When you interact with a virtual reality program you have a sense of being completely immersed in it. Many museums and institutions now offer virtual tours of their buildings on their websites and these give you the impression of walking through the actual museums, making your own decisions about where to go. Virtual reality can be used to simulate real events, such as flying an aeroplane. The main advantage of this is that pilots can be presented with what look like dangerous situations, and learn how to deal with them, but their lives are not at risk http://www.virtualfreesites.com/
Public Information – Virtual Tours Multimedia public access points are often located in museums or town centres. People use them as an information point to find out what they want to know. Example Abus station may use a public access point to inform customers of bus times and tourist information centres may use them to inform people about tourist attractions and events. The interfaces rely on being simple and user-friendly, so everyone can use them regardless of ability or experience. A lot of public access points use a touch-screen input device because they are easy-to-use and more hard-wearing than a mouse and keyboard.
Marketing and Advertisement When marketing and advertising a product, it is important to identify and satisfy the end-user's requirements. Multimedia has altered the way products are advertised and marketed, and offered a new marketplace for this activity. The internet has opened a new area for advertising and marketing. Products are advertised in banners, pop-up windows, links, embedded video, flash movies and more. Whether you're using a website to research a project or just checking your email, adverts are hard to escape.
