An Introduction to Judaism To EXAMINE the religion of Judaism
Today Many Jews live in Israel today. However, the nation of Israel has only existed since 1948. It was many centuries before that the Jews lived in large numbers in this area. In the meantime they dispersed throughout the nations. The Jewish people originate from the Middle East.

Origins The Jewish people believe that they can trace their origins back to one man – Abram. They call him the father of the Jews. He lived nearly four thousand years ago in a country they now call Iraq. An Ur temple
Moses Moses was the great leader of the Israelites (Hebrews). He asked the Pharaoh of Egypt to set the slaves free, the Pharaoh refused and so God sent ten horrible plagues. The Pharaoh finally let the Israelites go free.
Torah The Jews have special books, in which they can read all the rules of their religion. The oldest of these is the Tenach (24 books Christians call the Old Testament). The most important of these 24 books are the first five this is called the Torah. The Torah contains a mixture of stories and commandments. It describes the creation of the world and the history of the early Jews.
Synagogue Synagogue means gathering, it is a meeting place for Jews, where they pray, talk and study. The building can be big, small, old or new. Within the building certain key features are the same, such as the Bimah, Ark and Menorah, all these features have an important message about Jewish identity and worship.
