Deconstruction Operations at Fort Knox During 37-month period 258 buildings were recycled 451 apartments were recycled 150,000 tons of materials diverted from landfill Saved $1.5 million in disposal costs Saved $1.2 million in demolition costs Generated over $225,000 in revenue Deconstruction Experience
Fort Knox Developed the Following Process: Recycle through deconstruction via auction Obtain contractor for additional deconstruction/demolition Contractor responsible for separating concrete, brick and block for use as aggregate Contractor responsible for separating and recycling scrap metal Remaining material is landfilled Deconstruction Process
Deconstruction Team Members include: Fort Knox Fort Campbell University of Tennessee’s Center for Industrial Services University of Louisville’s Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center Deconstruction Project Team
