  27. Summary • Observations of highresolution at radio wavelenghts of 18/35 LIRGsof the LIRGI survey • Detections at bothbands: • L band: 2 • C band: 3 • Bothbands: 3 • rms ~25-30 Jy/b, about twice the expected value • Detection of compact components with values of a few times 10^27 erg/s/Hz, typical of SNe and/or SNRs

  28. Summary • Gooddetection of at least 2 AGNs (evidenceboth in the espectral index and luminosity) • Overall, ourcurrent EVN observations show evidencefor: • AGN dominated nuclear sources (e.g. NGC 2623) • Mixingof SB and AGN activity (e.g., IRAS10565+2448) • SB-dominatedsources (several non-detections => diffusesynchrotronemission)

  29. Bottomlines local universe • eMERLINwilleventually trace thediffuse radio emission of thekpcscaleregions • LIRGI EVN isalreadyshowingtheexistence of compact components (AGNs as well as CCSNe/SNRs) thatwillhelp to characterizetheinnermost 100 pc regions of LIRGs and ULIRGs

  30. FutureWorkwith LIRGI • Remaining 17 U/LIRGs. • IncomingobservationswitheMERLIN • Improvement of thelastepochimages • Complete thecatalogwith new information (SNRs, AGN (yes/no), spectralindex) • Offerthe complete legacyprojectforthescientificcommunity
