  3. Role of PAC in shaping HENP program • Advise ALD on optimization of the program 3 aspects • listen to RHIC Beam Use Proposals • advise on optimum 2-3 year running scenario • respond to proposals • new RHIC or AGS experiments • neutrino program • other HENP program initiatives • strategic planning • RHIC mid-term plan • Nuclear Physics LRP input on RHIC-II and EIC

  6. Recommendations – from Nov. 05 meeting

  7. one of the March 06 recommendations recommendation addressed by increasing scope (and number of participants) of July QCDlab workshop to include a strong hot QCD component

  8. A Joint EIC2006 & Hot QCD Meeting Hosted by the Brookhaven National Laboratory July 17-22, 2006 Agenda Welcome Reception Sunday, July 16, 2006 Berkner Hall 6:00-8:30PM Accelerator Physics, MONDAY, July 17, 2006 Accelerator Physics, TUESDAY, July 18, 2006 The Nucleon Structure, WEDNESDAY, July 19, 2006 The Nucleus, THURSDAY, July 20, 2006 Confronting QCD, FRIDAY, July 21, 2006 Summaries, plans and discussions, SATURDAY, July 22, 2006

  9. PAC Impact • good • specific advice on HENP program has been followed • I see no reason to expect current ALD to do otherwise • increased scope to strategic planning is fairly new • good evidence that the advice in this area is listened to • formal (written) and informal (executive session) • more difficult to implement quickly • I believe it’s a good idea to use PAC expertise to hone the vision and articulation of the vision • Laboratory aims for & achieves good balance on the PAC • long serving/new, different parts of program, geographical, younger/older
