  2. PURIFY YOUR SOULS 1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

  3. PURIFY YOUR SOULS • Study “purify your souls” in 1 Pet. 1:13-25 • Sin: Not clean, filthy, corrupt, defile • Purify: Cleanse filth, corruption, defilement • Deep need & yearning of the soul reflected throughout Scripture

  4. PURIFY YOUR SOULS Psalms 19:12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

  5. PURIFY YOUR SOULS Psalms 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Psalms 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Psalms 51:10 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

PURIFY YOUR SOULS Isaiah 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Isaiah 1:18 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

PURIFY YOUR SOULS Isaiah 6:5-7 5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. 6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: 7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

  8. PURIFY YOUR SOULS Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

  9. PURIFY YOUR SOULS Jeremiah 2:22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD. Jeremiah 4:14 O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

  10. PURIFY YOUR SOULS Acts 15:9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

  12. PURIFY YOUR SOULS Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

PURIFY YOUR SOULS Hebrews 9:13-14 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

  14. PURIFY YOUR SOULS James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

PURIFY YOUR SOULS 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Prepare Your Mind for the Journey A. “Gird Up the Loins of Your Mind” B. “Be Sober:” Serious about Salvation C. “Hope to the End:” Reality of Salvation D. Firm Decision to Make the Journey

Two Ways: Obey God VS Sinful Lusts B. Firm Decision: Leave One, Learn Other C. Why We Sin: Selfish Desires D. Examples of Sin: Analyze Why E. Sin: Selfish, Wicked, Destructive F. Decide to Change: Learn to Obey God

Learn to Be Holy Like God A. God Is Holy: Set Apart from Sin B. Be Holy: Set Apart from Sin, Set Apart to Serve God

Travel with Reverence for God A. God as Father, & Perfect Judge • Child depends on His love, wisdom, power • Answer for course we choose B. Travel as Foreigners: God Guides Steps • Pray, study Bible, stay close to His people • Long journey: many dangers & trials

PURIFY YOUR SOULS 1 Peter 1:18-21 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. V. Redeemed by the Blood of Christ

Purify the Soul in Obeying the Truth A. Sin Forgiven, Soul Purified when Obey • True cleansing, inside out, whiter than snow • Must seek the truth! • Holy Spirit gave truth in Bible not emotions B. Learn Sincere, Unselfish Love

The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. VII. Purified by the Gospel of Christ
