The word “chivalry,” came from the word “horseman,” in other languages; such as: • Chevalier (French) • Caballero (Spanish) • Cavaliere (Italian)
Social Ladder • Right after a lord of the land, came the knight. • The knight was trusted by the lord to protect his land at all costs.
Don Quixote!(The Man Of La Mancha) • A knight of chivalry. • Published in 1615, but not translated into English until 1620. • Written by: Miguel de Cervantes Saaavedra
Chivalric Orders • Knights belonged to a multitude of specific Orders, each were for one purpose or another. Most orders emphasized components of: • Piety • Faith • Humility • Chastity • Other Worthy Ideas
The Crusades • From 1096 to 1270, were the crusades. • It was between the Muslims and Medieval England. • They fought for Jerusalem, the holy land.
War Games • After the Crusades, knights continued to show their skill as well as bravery in medieval tournaments; such as: jousting, blunt sword fighting, and archery.
