  2. Who We Are and Where We Work • TAMCC is an ecumenical organization that aims to maximize utilization of strengths and resources of communities in northwest KZN through building partnership and capacity of churches

  3. Why Male Caregivers? • Power and impact of Ministers to disseminate information • Challenges gender stereotypes in highly patriarchal culture • Redefines masculinity • Mitigates the burden that women traditionally carry • Many men are more comfortable with male caregivers • Models Christian service and compassion

  4. How the Male Caregivers Program Works • Counseling • Home visits • Spiritual counseling • Anger counseling • Grief and bereavement counseling • Funerals

  5. Each month Male Caregivers must: • Visit four schools • Visit four hospitals • Visit four child headed homes Some of the tools that were used during the mental heath training session

  6. Impact of the Program • Clergy educated and informed • Addresses life skills and drug abuse in communities • Stigma is lessened • Domestic violence reduced • Church membership increases • PLWA are cared for with dignity and compassion

Challenges & Opportunities • Unique program that educates and transforms the entire church and community • Empowered clergy are able to change people’s deep seated beliefs and behaviors • Ministers are overextended • Geographic areas very large • Non traditional approach can be threatening in very traditional communities
