  5. Grammar: Helping Verbs These verbs help other verbs. They come before the main verb. Together they form a verb phrase. Forms of “to be” can be helping verbs. I am running. He is coming.

  9. Comprehension: Transition Words These words tell you that something has changed. It could be a change in time or in place. They tell what is next. They help ideas flow and make sense. They are like glue. They are like a bridge.

  10. Comprehension: Transition Words Look for these words as you read. meanwhile, then, after, before, finally, suddenly, next, later, soon, above, across, below, beside, until, over, under, between, near, around

  11. Comprehension You try it: Find the Transition Words. 1. The library was closed, so we went home. 2. Since it was almost dark, we decided to go inside. 3. Tom went shopping. Meanwhile, I baked a cake.
