  4. Check Eligibility Before Applying • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution • Completion of 3 years teaching in one or more early childhood, elementary, middle or secondary schools • Hold a valid teaching license

  5. Take One! • Participants prepare and submit one video portfolio entry from any of the current certificate areas • Take One score can later be transferred if participant pursues NB candidacy within 3 years • $395, not eligible for NC funding

  6. Application Process • Submit application to NBPTS with $65 application processing charge. 1/1/09-12/31/09 • Apply for NC funding through the NBPTS website • NC candidates receiving funding are not required to complete the eligibility verification forms. • Candidates should check his or her record on My Profile to make sure NBPTS has received verification of eligibility from NC.

  7. Assessment Calendar • After submitting application and fee, check assessment calendar. • Make assessment appointment 30 days before test date. • Assessment center window, 1/4/10-6/15/10

  8. Portfolio Materials • You will receive Portfolio materials within 3 weeks of receipt by NBPTS or your application. • 1st time candidates: Due March 31, 2010 • Retake candidates: Due April 15, 2010 • Take One participants: Due April 15, 2010

  9. The National Board Certification Process • Portfolio entries • 3 instructional entries • 1 documented accomplishments entry • Assessment Exercises • 6 content-specific exercises

  10. Assessment Center Appointment • You will receive an Authorization to Test letter within 10 business days of receipt by NBPTS of assessment fee and required eligibility forms • Letter shows eligibility to schedule your assessment center appointment, confim your assessment testing window & and direct you to needed information.
